In two weeks, we are going camping for the first time. Finally!
Each year, we say we are going to go and never do. So for my birthday trip this year, we are heading to Gatlinburg to camp.
We were just there in January, but I've never been when it's warm, and I really want to see Cades Cove alive with color. So I figured why not camp? Now we will be staying at a campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, so it won't exactly be roughin' it. But seeing as we've never been...I don't exaclty know how this will go, so any tips and tricks are greatly appreciated!
Soon after this trip, I am looking forward to another camping trip, which will be at another spot in the park, however, this spot has no electricity, only restrooms.
So any advice is appreciated!
Happy Birthday. I just came visiting from the Southern Plate FP forum.
ReplyDeleteWow, a visit to any National park is on our mind for a vacation this year. Would love to see photos of Cades Cove and the Great Smoky's.
Sending you some ideas even though you're probably on your trip as I post this.
We have not camped, but as for any day trip, I'm always armed with totebags. Vinyl poncho or jacket for rain. Backpack, with granola bars, nut mix ( high energy snacks) hiking shoes, find a walking stick along the way during one of your day hikes.
For the place without electricity,Big flashlights with battery operated radio and extra batteries.
Bring your favorite foods that don't need cooking. Putting my thinking cap on:
Packaged tuna,( mix with ketchup instead of mayo that needs refrigeration). and Pita bread pockets.
A bean salad, for protein- chickpeas, black-eyed peas, and bottled Italian dressing would keep.
Bottled water and those flavor packages from Crystal light Ex.-pink lemonade.
Tortilla chips and bottled Salsa ( my fav munchie! LOL.
